Allergens: The Invisible Menace
With more Americans affected by allergies and asthma, your home may contain allergens
that will negatively affect potential buyers. Since pet dander is such a potentially
potent irritant for some people, make sure your animals are outside when you’re
showing your home. Better yet, send Fluffy and Fido to live with friends or family
until your house is sold.
Be sure your home is mold and mildew free. Mold is one of the most common indoor
allergens. Make sure you clean your home with mold killing cleansers such as hydrogen
peroxide.
Though it is good idea to clean your home before an open house, be sure not to use
bleach or other cleansers with strong odors. Even odors such as pine and lemon can
irritate some people’s allergies. Also be sure your ventilation ducts are clean,
to ensure the best possible air quality.
